Sarah Sweeney, M.Ed., CCC-SLP, QOM

Sarah is the founder of Sunshine Speech Therapy and a speech-language and orofacial myofunctional therapist with over nine years of experience supporting children with speech, language, feeding, and orofacial myofunctional needs.

She started Sunshine Speech Therapy in the middle of the 2020 pandemic after recognizing that too many children in the Richmond, Virginia area were going without services. She is deeply committed to creating a space where children feel safe being themselves and families feel genuinely supported. She believes therapy should be fun, connected, and affirming—values that are at the heart of her practice.

Sarah is honored to run a practice rooted in authentic relationships and meaningful connection. She is passionate about providing care that is both clinically excellent and joyful for the families she serves. Her goal is for therapy to feel supportive, personal, and maybe even a little quirky—because building real connection with children is central to everything she does.

Outside of the clinic, Sarah enjoys writing children’s books, making music, narrating books , and spending quality time with her husband, her son, and their two doggies.

Jessica Bowers, M.Ed., CCC-SLP

Jessica Bowers is the newest speech-language pathologist at Sunshine Speech Therapy. She earned her Master of Education in Communication Sciences & Disorders from the University of Virginia in 2018. Since then, she has had the opportunity to work with children and families across a variety of settings, including early intervention, outpatient clinics, public schools, and specialized day schools. She is passionate about helping children find their voice and build meaningful connections through improved communication.

Her clinical interests include supporting children with autism and ADHD, working with gestalt language processors, and helping children develop strong articulation and phonological skills. She is currently expanding her skills in myofunctional therapy and looks forward to integrating this approach into her work as she continues learning and growing in this area.

Jessica’s top priority as a speech therapist is building strong, trusting relationships with both children and their families. She places a high value on involving caregivers and team members in the therapy process and strives to make therapy practical, supportive, and empowering for everyone involved.

Outside of her professional work, Jessica enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, dabbling with musical instruments, and practicing yoga.
